Colorful discussion should come to a close

If traditions never changed, teens would still be wearing lettermen sweaters and girls would still be accepting fraternity pins from boys to show they were going steady. Not that that was a bad thing.

But they do, and people get used to the new. So the Windham School Board finally ending the debate over whether to change the school colors for the new Windham high school is not the end of the world.

We appreciate that, for some, it was a matter of continuing the tradition of the middle school colors throughout high school. But blue as a dominant color was chosen by the middle schoolers themselves, and after all, it’s going to be their school.

A compromise of adding a touch of green to the color combo will continue the tradition of Pelham green and still take the kids’ vote took into consideration.

There are many more important decisions to be made for the high school, including curriculum and staffing. The School Board needs the remaining year before the opening of the school to work on these items. They don’t need to hear endless debate about colors.

Let’s regain some perspective and move on.
