Economy of scale
It’s good to see Epsom and Pembroke thinking outside the box of town boundaries to save costs. They are just two of several towns in the Suncook Valley Regional Town Association, all of whom are looking for economies of scale by joining forces to buy health insurance and legal services, as well as expensive items like asphalt. They’re even considering sharing emergency services. Local control is a wonderful thing, but there are many cases where it simply makes more sense to share resources and services. Police, fire and highway departments could all benefit from having more people contributing to covering shifts and getting work done. We’ll be watching to see how everything works out, and we imagine many others towns will be watching too. Good ideas have a way of catching on, and this looks like a good one. - Editorials published by Neighborhood News Inc. are written by an editorial board.
