Neighborhood softball game to benefit Crispin's House
Crispin's House, a nonprofit program for at-risk children in Goffstown, will host its annual summer softball tournament on Friday, July 29, at the Villa Augustina Fields from 6 to 10 p.m. All proceeds from the charity event will benefit Crispin's House programming, said Laurie Hambleton, the program's director. Those programs include the Crispin's House Afterschool Program at Mountain View Middle School, The Starfish Coalition and the Goffstown Area Diversion Program. This year, the event is going to have a new wrinkle, Hambleton said. Unlike previous years, the format will be tournament style. Teams that win advance; squads that lose are through. Another new feature on the field will deal with the rules, Hambleton added. Each batter will receive just one pitch and teams will be limited to five runs per inning to keep contests moving smoothly. "Each game should last only about 20 minutes to a half hour,"
Hambleton said. "And every
team plays at least twice."
The games are set for play
under the lights. The evening's
other elements will include a
concession stand with hot dogs
and hamburgers, an announcer
as well as raffles and prizes.
To date, teams participating
in the softball tournament are
Neighborhood News Inc., the
Goffstown Fire Department,
the Goffstown Main Street Program
and the Goffstown Rotary
Club.
