Candia
Moore School for sale?

The Candia School Board
will send a letter to several
nursing homes, which they see
as potential buyers for Henry
W. Moore School if the town
decides to build a new building.
Board members will meet
with SAU 15 Superintendent
Armand LaSelva at a special
meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday,
July 14, at the Moore School
library. Discussed at the meeting
will be the content of the
letter the board will send to
nursing homes, who could
potentially use the building as
future facilities.
The School Facilities Committee
has broken into three
groups to discuss options to
address space issues at Moore.
One group will address the
potential for renovations at the
existing school. The second
group will look into the construction
of a new building, and
the third will review the option
of creating a co-op with a border
town.
John Cole, a member of the
subcommittee studying the construction
of a new building,
drafted the letter and the board has made revisions on it.
School Board Chairman Karen
Smith said the outreach to nursing
homes is merely testing the
waters and that Moore is currently
not on the market.
“Single-floor buildings like
our tend to lend themselves to
nursing homes because they
have easy access,” she said.
“But, to be clear, (Moore) is
currently not listed as on the
market. We do not know if we
will get approval to build the
school”
LaSelva said the board is
sending the letter to area nursing
homes to see if there is interest
in constructing in Candia.
Smith said the meeting will
also give residents the opportunity
to voice their opinions on
the potential option.
