Five selectman approved
By Nathan Duke

Residents will vote for five
selectmen in next year’s election
as the special ballot question
to increase the town’s
selectmen from three to five
passed. The special ballot question
was given approval by voters,
with a passing vote of 451-
203 at the Tuesday, March 8,
election.
Town clerk Christine Dupere
said one new selectman will run
for a three-year term next year,
while the other will run for a
two-year term. After serving
those terms, they will run again
for three-year terms.
There will be one new selectman
right away, as Fred Kelly
beat Tom Giffen 334-108. The
selectman position was left
vacant when Neil Sieminski
died Dec. 22.
Selectman Gary York had
only positive things to say
about the outcome of the vote.
“It’s nice that the citizens,
through all that bad weather had
the determination to come out
to vote,” he said. “The will of
the people – it’s great.”
Only one of the town’s zoning
ordinances – Article 4 –
passed, with a vote of 408-322.
