The body of a 19-year-old
woman who was reported missing
last fall was found in the
Piscataquog River last weekend.
Police identified the body of
Sarah Maria Langis of Merrimack
upon removing it from
the river in the Pinardville section
of Goffstown on Saturday,
April 9.
The Goffstown Police Department
received a call in the midafternoon
on Saturday from a
Lynchville Park Road resident
who had spotted a body in the
Piscataquog River. Police, fire
and EMS personnel confirmed
the body of a deceased female
along the shoreline and identification
was made through the
use of dental records.
Langis was reported missing
by her father in November
2004. At the time, she was
living with a roommate at the
Eastridge condominium complex
in Merrimack. After she
did not show up for a period
of a few days, her roommate
contacted the family.
Langis’ name was removed
from the National Crime Information
Center database in
December after her father said
he spotted her at a Wal-Mart in
Bedford, police said.
Goffstown Police Capt.
Glenn DuBois said the case
remains under investigation by
the department, as well as the
Merrimack Police Department
and the Hillsborough County
Attorney’s Office.
“We have a whole slew of
possibilities as to what happened,”
he said.
DuBois said Langis’ body
was likely in the river for several
months, most likely since
early winter.
Though an autopsy was performed
on Sunday, April 10,
DuBois said there are further
tests to be done before
any definitive answers can be
given.
“We are waiting for the medical
examiner’s office to do their
report,” he said. “They still
have to do a toxicology scan
to see if any stimulants were
involved. A background has to
be done prior to the last time
she was seen. There are many
possibilities as to what could
have happened.”
