New Boston
Begin ready for Weare
By Devon Cormier
Staff Writer
New Boston Police Chief
Gregory Begin was elected
Police Chief of Weare in a
landslide victory on Tuesday,
March 8.
More than 800 voters supported
the Weare resident to fill
the seat during the first year
that Weare is electing, rather
than appointing, a police chief.
“I’m going to sleep better
tonight because now I know,”
Begin said. “The election is
over. This really gives me a
bigger sense of community.”
Begin said New Boston officials
have opted to hire an outside
interim chief as soon as
possible so Begin can start his
new job in Weare.
Begin hopes to start on
March 21,
although he
has decided
to finish up
the DARE
program he
is running at
New Boston
Elementary
School this
year.
Weare residents voted to
elect a new chief last March,
after Chief Myles Rigney
became the center of controversy.
Weare selectmen placed
him on administrative leave in
November for an undisclosed
reason.
